Pests around the house cause hazards and unsanitary conditions. They are also just annoying. Though it can be tough and expensive to handle pests, action is necessary. Use the tips that are to follow, and you will not have your day ruined by pests.

Have you found that fruit flies return even after you have eradicated them? The problem may be with your drain. Tape a piece of plastic wrap over drains for a couple of days, and see if these pesky little flies pop up. If so, put some boiling water in your drain and scrub it well. This should prevent fruit flies from making a nest in your drain.

In order to prevent insects from coming inside, use a perimeter spray outside. Spray areas around your house, like the windows and doors, steps and the foundation. Always look for cracks around the perimeter of the house. You should then seal off these places with caulk or whatever filler you prefer.

If you find a lot of flying bugs or even bats inside your home, check the screens on your windows. Screens on your doors and windows can not only prevent flying insects from coming in your home, they can also help prevent other crawling insects from coming in, too. Fix holes that are now part of your screens.

Is your home swarming with ants? Mixing borax and sugar together will kill those ants dead. Sugar attracts the ants, and the borax kills them. A quart jar containing a cup of sugar and a cup of borax will work. Poke holes in the jar lid, and sprinkle the content along your house’s basboards and foundation.

It is important to keep brush and firewood at minimum a foot from your house. Insects like to live in bushes. By placing the brush within close proximity of the home, you run the risk of these insects invading through windows or doors.

Repair all leaks in your plumbing. That’s because water attracts pests. They are able to spot drips from far away. You do not want to be invaded by pests in your home. Use a little elbow grease to stop the leak, or call in a professional plumber who can do the job for you.

If you keep pets, it’s not wise to use mouse or rat poison. Your animal friend may accidentally take in some of the poison as well. Children should also never be around this kind of bait. They’ll think the pellets are candy.

A major living spot for pests is your drains. Liquid pipe cleaner and snakes are effective at ridding your drain of pests, and should be used regularly. Debris and soap scum can accumulate, providing pests with an inviting home.

Exterior lighting can also attract pests. Try and avoid putting exterior lights near any entrances to your house. Orange and yellow lights attract fewer bugs than traditional incandescent bulbs.

Examine your foundation and your walls to see if there are any cracks. It is natural for fissures and cracks to form in your home’s foundational structure. Pests can wiggle through these entry points and go inside. Inspect the ceiling too. Sometimes, pests may find cracks and come through those.

Sealed Containers

Food should all be sealed if you have problems with roaches. A bag clip is not good enough, ensure that sealed containers and zip-lock bags are used for food storage. Cockroaches are attracted to any food and they will eat it. Use sealed containers for all of your baking supplies too, including sugar and flour.

Seal all the cracks in your house with caulk to help combat a bug problem. You cannot get rid of everything with a fogger or spray. Use the caulk on the molding between walls and floors, around sinks or tubs, and around your pipes where they enter your home.

If your home is infested with flying bugs, take them down using hairspray. Perfume can also be used, but avoid getting it into your eyes. These products are flammable; be wary around flames. If you don’t have any bug spray on you, hairspray or perfume can be a great way to get rid of pests.

Areas where carpenter ants are found signify a much more serious problem. They are attracted to wet wood, which means your house has a leak somewhere which can lead to wood rot. If this is the case, you should inspect your home thoroughly for wet spots and remediate them immediately.

As mentioned earlier, pest infestations are more than just annoying, they present serious health risks. Because of this, you want to fix the problem as soon as possible. We hope that the tips we’ve shared with you will help you get rid of the pests in your life.
