Having pests invade your home can be a real headache. It may cost a lot of money and a lot of time to solve your problem. The information in the next few paragraphs will help you take control of the problem before it gets too bad.

Steel wool is a great way to deter mice and other critters. Even if the pests manage to chew through it, the steel wool will end up killing them. All openings bigger than a quarter inch need to be stuffed. These rodents can come through small areas.

One of the things that you can do to get rid of the pest problem in your home is to vacuum all of the rugs in your house. Vacuuming gathers up all of the ants from within the rooms, as well as small pieces of trash or food that may attract more outsiders. When you finish vacuuming, dispose of the bag or empty the canister.

Use some hairspray to get rid of wasps, bees or hornets. These types of sprays are filled with chemical additives that can eliminate bugs on the spot, while keeping additional ones from arriving.

Remember that bed bugs are a tricky pest to treat. Bedbugs can lay dormant for a year without food. You need to plug all holes in the home. The bugs won’t have anywhere to hide when their sanctuary is sealed off.

Does your home’s location contain lots of mice and rats? If so and you are considering planting a few trees, then you should ensure you don’t plant them neary our home. Rodents can climb up them and go into your house by way of the attic. Trees should sit no less than 15 feet from the house.

That same outdoor lighting you use to keep intruders away at night, or light the path for your guests, may also be attracting pests. If you must have outdoor lighting, try using bulbs that are pink, yellow or orange in tint, as these tend to attract pests much less.

It can work really well to use an electronic repellent for pests in and around your home. You plug these little devices in every room, and they make a tiny buzzing sound that keeps rodents away. You might be able to hear these repellents, but they are not dangerous for humans and pets. Rodents will leave the area of the noise, since they do not like it.

Do not use rat or mouse poison if you have pets in your home. Your dog could get sick from catching a poisoned rodent. This bait is not recommended around kids either. The pellets can look like candy, and your child may find them and eat them.

Steel Wool

If you have mouse holes, put a piece of steel wool into the hole. Mice will attempt to eat through this steel wool, which will kill them. Adding shredded steel wool to wood putty and using this mixture to fill any suspicious holes is effective against rodents.

Do you use lights on the outside of your home? If so, then it is likely they are attracting pests. Try to keep these lights away from the entrances of your home. It’ll also help if you use orange or yellow lights to reduce the number of pests attracted to them.

Keep all of your food stored in containers with tight lids if you notice cockroaches in your kitchen. A paperclip will not solve the issue, as cockroaches will still be attracted to the smell. Cockroaches love food so will go wherever it is. Be sure to keep baking ingredients, such as sugar and flours inside of sealed containers.

Here’s a great trick to rid your home of silverfish. Leave a wet newspaper out overnight. Overnight, a large number of silverfish will collect on to the paper. Make sure you quickly grab them before they scatter and transport them into a trash bag outside.

It’s easy to get pests, but it’s hard to get rid of them. Hopefully, you know enough to keep pest away now. If you already have a serious pest problem, you should probably call in a contractor to deal with it.
